Raiders finish season strong with home win

February 5, 2013

Playing in front of their home crowd for the last time of their careers, Oak Hill seniors Conner Baird, Jeb Stevens, and John Wesley Williamson knew it was their responsibility to lead their team to a convincing win before going into the postseason; they did just that, combining for 30 points in Oak Hill’s 78-37 thrashing of Carroll Academy. After a tight 17-11 first quarter, the Raiders opened the second period with an 11-0 run before going into halftime with a 38-19 lead. Carroll’s hopes of a senior night spoiler were snuffed out after a third quarter onslaught by J.J. Bridges and company.
Oak Hill had by far the best shooting night of the season from three-point range, going 7-14 from beyond the arc as a team while shooting 56 percent from the field. The Raiders held a plus 12 rebounding margin over Carroll.
J.J. Bridges led Oak Hill in scoring with 17 points. John Wesley Williamson and Jeb Stevens scored 13 and 11, respectively. Drake Riley added nine points and nine rebounds. Conner Baird and Matthew Gwathney scored six points a piece, while Curt Huffman and Dakota O’Bryant finished with five points each. Riley Pierce and Heath Ford rounded out the scoring with two points, respectively.
