Raiders face off with Heritage for HC

October 6, 2011

Oak Hill Academy showed much improvement in the second half of last week’s loss to Leake that they plan to keep up the momentum when they host Golden Triangle rival Heritage Academy.

“They played hard, we got a lot out of them” head coach Benjie Merchant said. “They went to the bell and played a good team in Leake. We battled to the end there.”

The Raiders finally ended their scoring drought with the first touchdown since week three.

Merchant said the boys have had a pretty good practice this week.

“I think we had a little more lift, a little more spirt,” he said. “Trying to build on it.”

Conner Baird will return to the lineup for Oak Hill after missing several weeks. Merchant said he will be used to some capacity as a wide receiver, no doubt another option for quarterback Adam Tumey to throw to.

Transfer Diquan Ewing had a solid debut with a pair of receptions for 40-yards in his debut and an interception.

AAA Heritage have been a little inconsistent and have finally got back on the right side of the tracks with a 56-21 win over Magnolia Heights last week to snap a three game skid.

Merchant said look for the Raiders to try and control the clock and throw the ball a little more this week after the modest success they’ve been having.
