Raiders drop third in a row with loss at Indianola

September 6, 2011

INDIANOLA - Oak Hill’s struggles continue on the gridiron this season after the Raiders were handed their third consecutive loss Friday night, 39-14 at the hands of Indianola Academy.
Offensive miscues and fumbles led to numerous turnovers in the game as the Raiders trailed 25-0 after the first quarter.
“We came out flat,” head coach Benjie Merchant said. “We came off the bus and weren’t ready to play.” Complete stats weren’t available as of press time.
Merchant said the same mistakes being made all season continue to hurt the team, mental mistakes on offense and not making tackles defensively. The Raiders trailed 39-7 at the half.
Their two touchdowns came in the second and fourth quarter with quarterback Jeb Stevens finding Kurt Huffman and Jacob Dickens while Reid Posey added the PAT’s.
Merchant said the Raiders did have a better second half defensively, holding the Colonels to zero points in the third and fourth quarter.
“We didn’t quit, they played better in the second half,” Merchant said. “We just have to get in the weight room and get stronger, that’s the bottom line. We were getting pushed around out there.”
Oak Hill will return home next Friday for a district match up against Manchester Academy (2-1) who are coming off a 28-26 win over Sylva-Bay Academy.
