The Oak Hill Academy Raider basketball program will test its strength tonight, in the opening round of district tournament play at Winston Academy.
The boys will taking on Carroll Academy, while the girls will be facing Winston on its home court.
During the regular season, the Raiders had two meetings with the Rebels, splitting the series.
The first game was a December 17 match at home against Carroll. John Wesley Williamson (17(), Steven Jones (13) and Reid Posey (13) led the offense to a 69-63 win.
The next time these two teams met was at Carroll on January 14. The boys played a tight ballgame, but it was Carroll that through in the winning shot, at the buzzer to claim the 54-52 victory.
Tonight, Oak Hill boys head coach Brian Middleton expects another close one.
“I don’t expect a whole lot of difference,” Middleton said on Thursday. “It’s going to be another close ballgame, and we’re going to have to be the ones who pull it out.”
The girls will be playing a Winston Academy team they battled and defeated twice during the season.
In early December, the Lady Raiders tipped off district play with a decisive 53-30 win over Winston. Tori Ellis led the girls with 23 points in that game. Oak Hill would later take the second game on January 11.
The boys will tip off at 5:30 p.m., and the girls will go on to play the later game at 7 p.m.
