Prentice Brewer, age 89, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at his home, in Columbus.
Edgar Prentice Brewer was born April 29, 1923, in West Point to the late Geraldine Marguerite Russell Brewer and Edgar Prentice Brewer Sr. He was the retired superintendent of maintenance at B & W after 27 years service and a member
of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a cattleman and loved his working his old homeplace. Mr. Brewer was a wounded veteran of WW II in the U. S. Army having served 32 months in the 512th M.P. Battilion, part of Patton's 3rd Army.
Edgar Prentice Brewer married Mary Helen Brewer on May 14, 1950, in West Point.
Funeral services were Monday, July 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Sammy Crawford. Burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery West Point.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Brewer of Columbus; daughter, Lisa Kay (Hank) Eaves of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; son, Prentice Kiplin (Gina) Brewer of West Point; three grandchildren: Garrett Blue, Kahlen Swoger and Lacey Brewer; sister, Martha E. "Libby" Harpole of Starkville. His brother, James Kipling Brewer, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Steve Harpole, Wayne Harpole, Shag Harpole, Darren Phelps, Tim Chaltry, and Chris Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J. R. Powell, Auvergne "Smitty" Smith, Herb Ingram, Rex Pumphrey, Charles Bevel,
Tommy Fowler, all his former co-workers at Babcock & Wilcox Company.
