Police are investigating a report of shots fired in the area of Jim James Court.
WPPD officers were dispatched to the area at 7:53 p.m. Monday after witnesses claimed to have heard gunfire. Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses at 5th Street School, who were nearby when the incident allegedly occurred.
According to the incident report, witnesses said they were chased by unidentified suspects toward the school just prior to the alleged shots.
The report indicates a second witness told responding officers four black men, one of whom allegedly had a firearm, exited a red Chevrolet Impala at the northwest quadrant of Jim James Court; one of the suspects allegedly opened fire on three other unidentified vehicles as they drove from the complex, according to the report.
The witness said she believed there were eight to 10 shots fired. The officer found shell casings in the area the witness pointed out, per the incident report.
West Point Chief of Police Tim Brinkley said that no one was injured but evidence has been collected and the investigation is ongoing.
“All too often we think someone in the community knows who did it and won’t come forward,” Brinkley said. “We can’t make an arrest off information we don’t have.”
