Police eye weekend incidents

March 18, 2014

The final weekend of spring break welcomed several of West Point’s sour apples. West Point Police Department investigators are working to establish solid leads on several burglary cases, as well as an incident involving eggs and mischievous night prowlers.
At about 9 a.m. March 14, West Point police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Chickasaw Drive in reference to possible malicious mischief.
The homeowners, according to WPPD Chief of Investigations Albert Lee, told police an unknown suspect(s) had thrown eggs at their vehicle and house. Lee said it happened some time after 10 p.m. as the homeowners were asleep by then. Upon waking, the homeowners exited the residence only to spot remnants of the previous night’s alleged “egging.”
Lee said there were no clues pointing to any one individual or group. He added the scales are even as to whether the alleged incident was executed at random or if it was premeditated.
“It’s very likely it could have been someone that may have known the homeowners as well as someone just being mischievous — just kids in the neighborhood ... being mischievous,” Lee said.
Lee said there were no reports of a similar incident in the area.
Next up: Keep an eye on visitors.
At about 10:30 a.m. March 15, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Westbrook Street in reference to stolen cash.
The homeowner, according to Lee, told responding officers she had invited a group of friends to her residence the night prior to stay the night. Lee said the homeowner told police she had gone to bed at about 2 a.m. that next morning. Upon waking, according to Lee, the homeowner allegedly noticed $500 cash missing from her purse.
