Pickens excited about first year as Lady Wave coach

November 8, 2012

The Lady Wave are an extremely young squad, returning only one player with playing time experience from last year’s ball club. Though Saturday’s loss in the Green Wave Classic to Kusciusko 33-28. The Lady Wave gave relentless effort and got it within two points in fourth quarter against the Lady Whippets but never could close the gap in the losing effort. The game against Kusciusko could have dampened first year Coach Kendall Pickens’ spirit, but he knows that this season for his girls is a time to grow into better ball players.
“We have a good group of girls,” said Coach Pickens about his Lady Wave, “[We are] trying to get better until January.”
January is a very important date for the Lady Wave when district season heats up for West Point. If the Lady Wave wants to get a good seeding into the district tournament, Coach Pickens believes his team will learn fast enough through November and December to be competitive when it is time for district play. West Point’s district consists of New Hope, Saltillo, and Oxford.
