Pheba man arrested for child battery

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Pheba man for alleged sexual battery and rape on Tuesday. Wilber Shepard, 42, of Palestine Road in Pheba, was charged with 10 counts of sexual battery of a child, and two counts of rape of a child.
Shepard was arraigned in Clay County Justice Court on Tuesday, with bond set at $1.2 million for all counts. He remained in the Clay County Detention Center as of Wednesday.
Sheriff Eddie Scott said the victims were in protective custody as of Wednesday, and were being carefully monitored.
