The Oak Hill Academy Raiders (10-13; 3-3) have been playing a tough stretch of late. Wrapping up district play last Friday against Manchester, the boys started a series that includes four games in this week.
After falling to Starkville on the road on Saturday, the Raiders returned to the court on Monday night to take on the Hebron Christian Eagles. In that non-district match, the Raiders tipped in the winning shot in the final second of the game for one-point win.
On Tuesday night, they took to the home court again, this time taking on a big Heritage Academy team.
The Patriots were prepared for the Oak Hill squad, taking them down by a score of 51-29.
The Raiders fell behind early in the first 2-0, but a pair of free throw shots from sophomore John Wesley Williamson tied the game up for Oak Hill.
Heritage would break the tie shortly there after, and the Patriots would run up an 11-2 score before Williamson could get his third shot of the period into the net. Williamson accounted for all four Oak Hill points in the first, as Heritage took a 17-4 lead into the second.
Things continued to go downward for Oak Hill in the second period. Williamson scored the first point again, this time making it 19-5 in favor of Heritage.
Jacob Dickens would then account for the final three points of the quarter, scoring all three on free throws. Heritage put seven on the board before the half, and the Patriots took a 24-9 lead into the locker room.
When Oak Hill returned to the floor, the offense came to life for its best period of the night. Oak Hill proceeded to put up 11 points on the Heritage defense, but the Patriots matched that with 11 of their own to make it 35-20 with eight minutes to go in the game.
In the final quarter, Oak Hill matched its scoring from the entire first half, with nine points in the final eight minutes. Heritage put up a solid 15 points to put the home team away.
Williamson finished the night with five points for the Raiders. Senior Zach Bryan scored eight points.
Reid Posey had four, Steven Jones scored three, and John Robert Wilbourne and Phillip Liu scored two each.
The Raiders will return to the court tonight to take on Lamar. All of the action will tip off at 4 p.m. with junior high games running until the start of the girls varsity game at 6 p.m. The boys varsity game will immediately follow.
