Height, athleticism and awareness are keys in the game of basketball.
Matthew Gwathney and Drake Riley provided those three attributes in the frontcourt for Oak Hill against the Heritage Patriots.
Gwathney scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Riley secured 14 rebounds and six points and the Oak Hill Raiders protected home court with a 53-42 win over Heritage Tuesday night on the campus of Oak Hill Academy in West Point.
“I think we are a good duo,” Gwathney said about the combination between Gwathney and Riley down in the post. “We have always been successful together since the eighth grade. We got some big offensive rebounds.”
Senior point guard Curt Huffman scored 15 points to lead Oak Hill in its second win of the 2013-14 season.
Heritage closed the gap between it and Oak Hill after trailing by 20 points to start the fourth-quarter, 45-25.
