OHA hires new football coach

June 24, 2014

Tony Stanford

Former Columbus High School Head Football Coach Tony Stanford has accepted the Oak Hill football head coaching position Monday night, according to OHA Athletic Director Marion Bratton.

The Raiders’ head coaching position opened after Daniel Merchant left the position for an undisclosed position in early June.

Stanford’s most recent stint was a four-year stop with Columbus, compiling a 22-23 overall record. Stanford led Columbus to the school’s first playoff berth in seven seasons during the 2012 campaign. He left Columbus after school administration requested he leave the post and Stanford complied Dec. 18.

Stanford, a Winona High School alumnus, has 38 years of coaching experience along the sidelines of Mississippi. His most memorable season was a MHSAA Class-4A championship with the Louisville Wildcats in 1995.
