The Oak Hill tennis team dropped its first district match Monday afternoon 5-4 in West Point. It came down to the last match of the day and the Mavericks of Manchester Academy held off the Raiders to remain undefeated in district play.
“We played well despite the weather, but they are a really good team and have 11 returning seniors this year,” Coach Brian Middleton said. “I was pleased with how we competed on a nasty day.”
In boys’ singles, John Willis Stevens defeated Alex Dixon (6-1)(6-1) and Will Kelly defeated Matt Huggins (6-3)(6-7)(7-6) in a split set tiebreaker.
Maegen Ellis beat Nettie Taylor Barbour (3-6)(7-6)(7-6) in a split set tie breaker in girls’ singles. Sydney Holton and Mikka Davis defeated Neely Horton and Johnna Jordan (6-2)(4-6)(7-6) in a split set tie breaker in girls doubles.
