After playing three home games last week, the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raider (21-8; 6-0) had one last contest to play. This time they would hit the road to play the Kirk Academy Lady Raiders in Grenada.
With the district tournament looming just a couple of days away, the Oak Hill girls fell to Kirk 51-36.
âWe went in there on their senior night, and they were really intense,â said head coach Stan Hughey. âWe were not able to match that kind of intensity. You canât get down like that to a good team. Weâve got a lot of work to do before Friday.â
Oak Hill got down early, with a deficit they would not be able to overcome.
Kirk scored 15 points in the opening period, while holding the Oak Hill offense to just five. In the second, Kirk expanded its lead with 17 points, while allowing 10 points to the visiting Lady Raiders.
In the second half, Oak Hill got off to a decent start, out-scoring Kirk 10-8 in the third quarter. In the fourth, however, the two teams scored 11 each, leaving Oak Hill 15 points behind when the final buzzer sounded.
Tori Ellis led the Lady Raiders on the night with 16 points. She was followed by Anna Ready who had eight.
Paige Dawkins and Maegen Ellis had four points each, and Rachel Herdon had three. Kayla Hall finished the game with two points.
The Lady Raiders will go on to play Winston, at Winston, this Friday night at 7 p.m. to open up the district tournament for Oak Hill.
