Oak Hill falls to North Delta

November 7, 2012

In the first round of MAIS AA Playoffs, the Oak Hill Raiders traveled to North Delta School located outside of Batesville, Mississippi. The Raiders, a AA playoff wildcard, found a very strong opponent in the Green Wave. Unfortunately, Oak Hill was on the wrong side of a 42-14 score, losing to North Delta and being knocked out of the MAIS AA playoffs.
A running clock was the demise of Oak Hill in the second half as they were unable to make their rally count in the second half. A better second half performance by the Raiders, saw Drew Riley score two rushing touchdowns allowing Oak Hill to find the scoreboard. Dakota O’Bryant recorded an interception in the second half. Along with Drew Riley’s two touchdowns, Samuel Harrell and Drake Riley had significant gains rushing the football for the Raiders.
Coach Daniel Merchant though is satisfied with the effort his team put forth throughout the whole season. Coach Merchant wanted to return this Oak Hill program back to the playoffs after a three year absence from the playoffs, the Raiders birth will mean a lot for the Raiders. With 23 returning players, Oak Hill should be able to carry this positive season into next fall.
“This [playoff game] is a very big step for our program,” said Coach Merchant “It is where we want to be year in and year out.”
