The Oak Hill Raiders (0-1) were hoping the season would have gotten off to a better start than it did on Tuesday night. The Raiders gave up a lot of early points, recovering to within four twice, but they would eventually drop the game to Lamar 68-59.
âWe came out a little shell shocked,â said Oak Hill head coach Brian Middleton. âThey were huge and we let them get on us early.â
In the first half, the Raiders let Lamar get a 19-point advantage, before staging a late rally.
At the end of the first quarter, the Raiders were trailing 26-17. In the second, the Raiders were able to cool down the Lamar attack, but they scored 14 to Oak Hillâs 12 points, taking a 40-29 lead into the half.
The Raiders had a solid second half, scoring 14 in the third and 16 more in the fourth, but they could not keep Lamar off the board, as the defense surrendered 28 more points over the last 16 minutes of the game. John Wesley Williamson led the team with 15 points scored. Stephen Jones had 13 points, and Zach Bryan had nine points and six rebounds.
Adam Tumey came off the bench and scored seven points in the fourth
Reid Posey and John Robert Wilburn both had five rebounds in the game.
The Raiders gave up 40 rebounds in the game, getting 28 of their own.
In junior high action, the Raiders were able to top Lamar 49-48 in a close battle.
Kurt Huffman scored 14 points, and Bradley Allen matched that with 14 points of his own.
Tonight, the Raiders will be home to face Kirk. All of the action tips off at 4 p.m.
