No one injured as city truck catches fire

July 16, 2013

A city of West Point meter reader is OK today after the city truck he was driving caught fire Tuesday at a residence on Waverly Road. West Point firemen rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire, which destroyed the front half of the truck. Battalion Chief Ronnie Robinson said the meter reader noticed smoke coming from the truck, stopped and notified 911. Robinson said the exact cause of the fire could not be determined due to the extent of damage, though the fire is believed to have started underneath the hood of the truck. The truck had been used by the city for nearly 30 years. Photo by Sheena Baker
