Nichols HR leads Hebron over Pats

August 17, 2011

COLUMBUS - Tori Nichols two run blast in the third inning have Hebron the lead and they never looked back on their way to a 4-2 win over Heritage Tuesday night.
“This was another typical game for us,” Lady Eagles head coach Cass Tapley said. “We did get seven hits but we are going to have to fill some holes in the lineup maybe with more of a short game.”
The game was scoreless until the third when Nichols cleared the bases with one swing. Chloe Tapley doubled to center to start the rally. The Lady Eagles were held scoreless until the fourth when they would double their lead to 4-0.
Beverly Blake reached base after getting hit by a pitch before Rebecca Joy Faulkner had a base knock to put runners on first and second. Blake moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a bad throw back to the pitcher. A stand up triple by Brynn Latham scored Faulkner.
Cass Tapley gave a lot of credit to his seniors for helping with the victory.
“Our seniors are getting better and better,” he said. “Both Tori and Beverly gave us some runs today and played well in the field.”
Heritage ruined the shut out in the fifth. An infield error and a walk put two on for the Lady Patriots and then two out error then allowed Heritage to plate two runs.
“Heritage did a good bit of bunting today that, for the most part, we fielded well,” Cass Tapley said. “We are starting to get some better play from our younger girls.  They all have their moments they just have to work to be more consistent and I am confident they will.”
Hebron totaled seven hits led by Nichols and Faulkner with two a piece. Chloe Tapley, Holly Hudson, and Latham rounded out the hit column.
In the circle, Chloe Tapley earned the win after pitching six innings and giving up just three hits while striking out eight.
The Lady Eagles will take on Calhoun this afternoon in a crucial district game before playing three games at an invitational in Starkville on Saturday.
