The Hebron Christian School girls basketball team went back to basics Wednesday afternoon to get their first win on the year at the Winona Christian School pre-season tournament, topping North Sunflower Academy 42-24.
"We just played plain basketball," head coach William Cotton said of his team's victory. "We brought up the court and fed it Tori (Nichols)."
Nichols, the squad's top-rebounder finished with a team high-24 points for the game as the Lady Eagles took a convincing 20-6 advantage into the locker room.
"She's (Tori) going to have to put up 20 points every time a ball game rolls around," said Cotton. "And I really hope she can get into the 30's on a consistent basis"
North Sunflower made it a more competitive ball-game in the second half, despite scoring 16 points, eight in each quarter.
Subrina Oswalt knocked down 10 while teammates Alaina Hill and Ruth Foster contributed with four points a piece.
The Lady Eagles will take on Delta Academy tonight at 5:15. Cotton says he's expecting a great ball game.
"We're looking forward to the competition," Cotton said of the math-up with the reigning MAIS Class A State champions. "They are tough. They have a young point guard who can do it all, she's one fine athlete."
The JV girls defeated Starkville Christian School 34-28. They play Delta at 4:15.
