New Green Wave site a hit during team’s road trip

September 1, 2010

In the past, Green Wave fans who were unable to make it to road games could listen to Bud Bowen do his signature play-by-play on the radio, but they would have to wait for the 10 o’clock news for even the smallest video glimpse of what went on.
Last Friday night’s road game was probably the longest West Point has ever taken, and if one was not a part of the 300-plus crowd in the visitor’s section at Daytona Municipal Stadium, today’s multimedia was almost essential to get the game.
While hundreds of fans watched the game live from the stands, hundreds were also watching the game live on the internet.
Thanks to, West Point fans all over had the chance to see their team defeat Mainland High School 14-0.
“I’ve heard some really good things about it,” Chambless said. “Like I tell people, we’re in the experimental stage.”
The website has the option to listen to the current game’s audio, and it also has the button one can click to watch the game on live stream. The website launched during the summer, and last week’s game was likely the highest traffic the Wave site has gotten.
Chambless says that they are still working out some kinks in the system, but he has the upmost confidence in West Point’s IT director Chris Carter.
“Chris Carter is doing an outstanding job of trying to promote our football program,” Chambless said. “He’s working real hard on it. He’s also our IT guy for the school district, so he’s got his hands full.”
Chambless says that Carter will be making corrections as needed, as the year goes along, at no extra cost to the school district.
“My hat’s off to him for doing this for us,” Chambless said. “He’s not getting a dime for it. He’s doing this all for the good of Green Wave football.”
When the Green Wave kick off against Starkville on September 10, be sure to turn up the radio dial to hear Bowen’s patented play calls, and take advantage of the live stream to enhance the Green Wave experience.
