Nell Coleman Ropp
1921 - 2012
Nell Coleman Ropp, age 90, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, in West Point.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty six years, Kenneth Edward Ropp; daughter, Jeanne Ropp Ahlberg of Magee; parents Edgar and Nell Coleman of West Point; and brother James L Coleman of Vicksburg. She is survived by daughter, Ann Ropp Eagerton; six grandchildren: Neil Gordon Eagerton, Edward Coleman Eagerton, David Andrew Eagerton, Daniel Enoch Ahlberg, Jeanne Eagerton Cooper, Michael Carothers Ahlberg; and two great grandchildren: Carleigh Anne Cooper and Flint Enoch
Born in West Point, Nell graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in 1943. She then went to Birmingham to be a chemist for U. S. Steel. After a yearâ€™s time, she followed her dream and applied to be a hostess for Pennsylvania Central Airlines in Washington, D.C. To meet qualifications she had to stretch to meet the minimum height of five feet and gain weight to weigh the minimum of 100 pounds. After earning her wings, she met Captain Kenny Ropp and soon thereafter they married and had their two girls.
From there the family transferred to New Orleans, La., then Coral Gables, Fla., and finally retiring to Columbus, in 1979. During her lifetime she was a homemaker, a dedicated mother, a gardener, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, EPC of West Point. Besides travel she pursued family genealogy, leaving behind a legacy of information for the
family who is just now starting to appreciate her knowledge and expertise in that field.

Funeral services are graveside at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point, Sunday, April 29, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
