This week’s winter storm caused many schools and businesses to close around the state. Athletic events were no exception to this either, as most of the early-week activities on the area schools’ schedules have either been postponed or canceled.
Tuesday is perhaps the busiest night of the week for all schools when it comes to sports.
The West Point basketball teams were supposed to drive over to Oxford on Tuesday evening to play Oxford High school in a divisional match-up. Early on Monday, the teams had already decided that it was not going to be safe to travel.
There has not been a make-up date announced as of yet.
West Point’s soccer program was going to host Winona in a non-district doubleheader on Tuesday night as well. Unfortunately, both games have been canceled, and they will not be made up.
Oak Hill Academy was also supposed to return to the basketball court on Tuesday night for a district bout with Winston. All of those games have been moved to Saturday. The junior high teams will begin playing at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
All of the basketball action will begin at 8 a.m. for the Raiders, with peewee basketball tipping off early in the morning.
Finally, the Hebron Christian Eagles were getting ready to take on Calhoun at home. That game, along with Monday night’s district match against Winona Academy, have been postponed. No make-up date has been announced yet for those games.
All of the area teams plan to be back in action by Thursday, as Hebron goes to Central, Calhoun visits Oak Hill, and the West Point basketball teams will be playing at the Aberdeen Tourney.
West Point soccer will play at Kosciusko on Saturday.
