CEDAR BLUFF — The Rockin’ (sic) McRodeo is hosting a pair of events this weekend. Starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, the “Top Roper Challenge,” will be contested by 10 ropers at the McIlwain Arena on Highway 50 West in Cedar Bluff. The arena will also host a benefit for injured roper Bubba Eacholes at 2 p.m. Sunday. Gates open an hour prior to the start of each respective event.
“In the ‘Top Roper Challenge,’ the winner will walk away with the buckle, cash and bragging rights,” McIlwain said. “And on Sunday, we are hoping to raise money for our good friend Bubba Eacholes after he broke his leg competing in a roping competition.”
Admission for the Saturday event is $3, and the Sunday event is $2.
McIlwain said previous events hosted by the arena have drawn large crowds up to 500 in attendance and she expects another large turnout Saturday.
In the “Top Roper Challenge,” the participating ropers will head three steers, heel three steers and rope and tie down three calves in the three rounds of the competition. West Point native Alex Lummus is one of the featured locals in the Saturday event.
