McBryde to talk Civil War at Luncheon with Books

September 13, 2013

Local author and history buff, John McBryde, is bringing his book “The Battle of West Point” to Luncheon with Books, at noon, Thursday, Sept. 19.

McBryde moved to West Point at the age of 8, and spent his formative years in the West Point School System. While in Junior High, McBryde said that he heard stories of General Nathan Bedford Forrest told by older members of the community. He said his interest was piqued about Forrest and he began to study the Civil War in earnest while attending West Point High School. He said his love for history took a rest while he continued his education at Wood Jr. College in Mathiston. After receiving his associates degree, he enrolled at Delta State University in Cleveland. McBryde said he had intended to become a teacher but changed his mind and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history.
