Agents over the three-day weekend arrested a Texas man in Mississippi in connection with the seizure of about $100,000 in cocaine, interim Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Samuel W. Owens said Tuesday.
Charles A. Skelly, 25, of Houston, Texas, faces one count of possession of a kilogram of cocaine with intent to distribute, Director Owens said.
“A kilogram of cocaine is slightly more than two pounds of the controlled substance and has a wholesale value of approximately $34,000,” MBN Enforcement Commander Lt. Col. Mike Perkins said. “But, when reduced to the smaller quantities typically sold on the street for $100 per gram, it has an estimated street value of more than $100,000.”
Skelly’s arrest comes after a week-long investigation by the MBN, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, with assistance from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff Department. It stems from an investigatory stop made Saturday in Starkville, Perkins said.
