West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson is participating in a national day of recognition to show appreciation to local volunteers for the work they do.
Beginning 5 p.m. Tuesday in the downstairs conference room of City Hall, Robinson will host a come-and-go reception with cookies and punch for all residents and organizations that give their time to the community.
Robinson signed a proclamation on March 11 to declare April 1 Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service to spotlight the impact of local nonprofit and volunteer organizations like the Civitan International, West Point Garden Club, West Point Junior Auxiliary, and others.
Robinson said that these organizations need to be recognized because of the contributions that they voluntarily make to the community.
“These are people who give their time and energy to make West Point and the surrounding communities better,” Robinson said. “The work these people do makes the city the good city it is.”
West Point Housing Coordinator Dorothy Ryland said the reception is meant for any volunteer organization in the area.
“It’s for any organization that gives back to the community and is not getting paid to do it,” Ryland said. “Everyone that fits that criteria is invited to come.”
