Maj. (Ret.) James Benton Griffith (Jim)

Maj. (Ret.) James Benton Griffith (Jim) passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at his home in Miramar Beach, Fla.
He was born at Cedar Bluff, June 3, 1936, to the late Edna Ellis Griffith and the late James Benton Griffith Sr. He graduated from West Point High School in 1954, and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He was a Vietnam veteran, retiring in 1974. Following his retirement, he joined the Civil Service for the U.S. Army at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., serving from 1975 – 1996.
Jim was married to the late Jane K. Griffith, England, for 49 years.
Survivors include his son, Todd Griffith of Miramar Beach, Fla.; sister, Mary Frank Taylor (Bill) of Starkville; niece, Mary Frances Rye (Billy) of Florence, Ala; and nephew, Will Taylor of Columbus; as well as three great – nieces and a great – nephew.
His military funeral will be held at Faith Assembly Christian Church of Miramar Beach, Fla., Saturday, February 8, 2014. Arrangements are by McClaughlin Mortuary, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
