The West Point Main Street Association has designed new signs to represent historic areas of West Point.
Former Main Street Association President Kristen Stevens said that the project has been in the making for three or four years and the purpose of the signs was to make the downtown area more accessible.
“A lot of our signs were faded or nonexistent,” Stevens said. “The purpose of the Main Street Association is to promote that area and one way to promote it is for people to be able to easily find downtown.”
Stevens said that signs were made by CPC Signs in Jackson and cost $4,500 altogether, with the Main Street Association paying for half and the city paying for the other half.
“We raised money through three Christmas Tours of Home and two beer-tastings at Anthony’s,” Stevens said. “The cost came in a lot less than the original bid, so we were very pleased with that.”
Main Street Association President Scott Reed said the Main Street design committee was responsible for designing the signs, which are specific to the historic district they represent.
