After two months in limbo, Mississippi Supreme Court judges unanimously voted last week to uphold the stateâ€™s proposed open carry law, which enables any adult legally allowed to own a firearm or weapon to carry one openly without a permit.
Rep. Gary Chism â€” who represents parts of Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties â€” said lawmakers sought to clear discrepancies in the law brought to light by an attorney generalâ€™s opinion that legislature could only regulate concealed weaponry. As weapons worn openly were not concealed, limiting carry options was a violation of the Mississippi Constitution.
