A local man was arrested in connection to a weekend shooting at Oak Park Apartments on Cromwell Street in West Point.
According to West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley, James Minor, 26, of 109 Cherry Lane in West Point, was arrested Saturday and charged with accessory after the fact.
Brinkley said officers were dispatched about 2 a.m. Saturday to 840 Cromwell St. in reference to a fight in progress. According to the incident report, the officers were en route to the scene when 911 dispatch informed them that shots had allegedly been fired.
Upon arrival, investigators were met by several bystanders and witnesses at the entrance to Oak Part Apartments, according to the report. Witnesses informed the officers that one of the alleged shooters had fled the scene in a vehicle going south on Cromwell and that another may have still been somewhere on the premises.
According to the report, officers conducted a search of the immediate area and recovered some shell casings from the scene. They also received a description of the alleged assailants from witnesses but were unable to make contact with a suspect at that time.
No injuries were reported, but there was some damage to cars in the parking lot at the apartment complex.
According to Brinkley, later that morning officers were able to arrest Minor in connection with the incidents. He was taken to Clay County Detention Center and later released on a $7,500 bond, according to Brinkley, and he is set to be arraigned today in municipal court.
