Local Investigator Qualifies For Ward 3

February 25, 2013

Constituents of Ward 3 in West Point now have one more candidate to consider voting for in the May 7 Primary Election for elected municipal offices in the city of West Point.
Just last week Ken Poole, investigator with the West Point Police Department, declared his intention at City Hall to run for the office of Ward 3 selectman as a democratic candidate. Two other individuals declared their intent several weeks ago to run for the post, including Jimmy Clark and incumbent Charles Collins.
Poole's declaration marks the first time he has ever ran for public office in the city of West Point.
With Poole's official bid for the seat of Ward 3, the total number of individuals planning to run for offices in West Point comes to 14. Each office, including that of the mayoral seat, has multiple candidates with the exception of Ward 5, which is being sought after once again by incumbent Jasper Pittman.
Although all 14 candidates have qualified at City Hall their names still have to be certified by the West Point Municipal Election Commission before being placed on the May 7 ballot.
At this time there are no republican or independent candidates, but those wishing to run for mayor or selectman in West Point still has until March 8 to submit their qualifying paperwork at City Hall. Names of qualifiers will not be certified until after March 8, and candidates do have the opportunity to change their party preference during this period if they choose.
After the qualifying deadline absentee ballots will become available and voter registration will begin April 1. Once a party nominee has been selected for each post electors of Clay County will head to the polls June 4 to cast their vote.

The following is a list of qualifiers as of Friday, Feb. 22:
• Mayoral Race: Robbie Robinson, Darlene Cox
• Ward 1: Jimmy Davidson, Linda Hannah, William W. Young
• Ward 2: Homer Cannon, William Binder
• Ward 3: Charles Collins, Jimmy Clark, Ken Poole
• Ward 4: Keith McBrayer, A.C. House
• Ward 5: Jasper Pittman
