A West Point resident will be charged with aggravated assault following a Tuesday night shooting.
According to West Point Police Chief of Investigations Albert Lee, about 7 p.m. Tuesday officers responded to a disturbance call at Red Wine Circle in West Point.
“When officers arrived they found a black male with a gunshot wound,” Lee said. “Paramedics arrived and he was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.”
Lee said WPPD could not release the name of the victim as of Wednesday, but that the victim is still undergoing treatment.
Earnest O’Neal, 24, of 540 Red Wine Circle in West Point, was taken into custody later that night in connection with the shooting, according to Lee.
O’Neal was taken to the Clay County Detention Center and his bond was set at $50,000.
He is set to appear May 6 in municipal court on charges of aggravated assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding this case may call WPPD at 662-494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-531-7151.
