Lady Wave falls to Yellowjackets

Special to Daily Times Leader

STARKVILLE — The young and inexperienced West Point Lady Green Wave showed coach Brian Guy something to build on late in Tuesday night's 12-2 loss at Starkville.
Trailing 9-0 after four innings, the Lady Green Wave scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to get to within seven runs.
It may not have seemed much to the average fan, but the way his team fought meant quite a bit to Guy.
"I'm very proud of them and that shows you a lot as a coach," Guy said. "We could have folded up and been down right there. It was a show of the character we have to come back and go down swinging."
West Point got the only two hits for the game off Starkville pitcher Callie Wells in the fifth inning.
Tori Boatner doubled and scored for the Lady Green Wave on a single by Ashli Coggins. Coggins came home on an RBI ground out by Angel Bensend.
