December 8, 2012

The Lady Wave needed to find a way to stop their losing skid. In Aberdeen Friday night, West Point put in a great team effort and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 49-11.
Using a new full court press, the Lady Wave were able to keep Aberdeen from ever getting anything started offensively. By the end of the first quarter, West Point led the Bulldogs 15-0. The second quarter saw continued dominance by the Lady Wave as they continued to work the full court press on defense. At the midway point of the quarter, West Point were routing the Lady Bulldogs 27-2. At halftime, the Lady Wave had stretched their lead out to 38-4.
The second half was a repeat of the first half as the Lady Wave were still dominant on defense allowing for offensive success. After a nine point third quarter, West Point led 47-9 over the Lady Bulldogs. With such a great lead, West Point was able to clear the bench so everybody could pick up minutes. The Lady Wave closed out the game with a 49-11 win.
“We put in a new press and we executed,” commented Head Coach Kendall Pickens after Friday’s victory, “I told the girls, they needed to play with confidence and I hope this will carry over.”
The Lady Wave put in a dominant game and built confidence with a good win over Aberdeen. Shamaya Lyles led the scoring column with 13 points. Qiayon Bailey had 11 points on the night.
