To cap off one of the last few weeks of the regular season, the Oak Hill Lady Raiders split a pair of games in two weekend contests, blowing the doors off of Manchester Academy Friday night before taking a 57-25 beating from top-ranked Starkville Academy Saturday evening.
In an offensive showcase for the Lady Raiders, nearly every player put some points on the board Friday night against the Lady Mavericks. Anna Ready led all scorers with 12 points. Shay Atkins and Rachel Herndon scored 10 and nine points, respectively, while Lauren Billington and Maegen Ellis finished with eight points each. Kelci Jo Langford, Sarah Dill, and Sydney Holton all added four points a piece. Bet Langley and Anna Grace Hemphill rounded out the scoring with three and two points, respectively.
Saturday afternoon, the tables were turned on the Lady Raiders. Starkville’s balanced offense and superb athleticism got the best of Oak Hill early, falling behind 22-3 after one period of play, with no answer offensively to counter the Lady Volunteers’ fundamentally sound defensive effort. After finishing the half trailing 40-7, the Lady Raiders poured in 12 points to the Lady Volunteer’s nine, but it was much too late to surmount such a large deficit, and the Lady Raiders fell once again to their regional rival.
Shay Atkins led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 10 points. Anna Ready and Sarah Dill finished with six points each, and Maegen Ellis added three.
The Junior Lady Raiders were victorious in both of their games, routing Manchester 41-2 in a three-quarter shutout before turning around to beat Starkville 33-18.
