For the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders, Thursday night looked like it was going to be a sure win over Kirk Academy for the first eight minutes of the game.
After that, the Lady Raiders let an 11-3 lead slip away into an eventual 38-32 loss.
In the first quarter, Oak Hill’s Tori Ellis was leading the offense in a surge right out of the gates. After falling behind 2-0 to Kirk, Oak Hill answered by out scoring their opponents 11-1 over the next seven minutes.
In the second quarter, Kirk turned things around, scoring 12, while holding Oak Hill to just seven, leaving the Lady Raiders with an 18-15 lead at the half.
The third quarter was a tight battle between the two clubs. Neither one got a lot on offense, and the Lady Raiders managed to barely keep a two-point leading going into the final period.
That lead would not last very long, as Kirk exploded for 16 points in the fourth quarter, holding the Lady Raiders to just eight, and they would run the clock out with the six-point lead.
Ellis led the Lady Raiders in scoring with 12 points on the night. Paige Dawkins had four points and Katelyn White had two points.
The Lady Raiders will not return to the court again until Thursday, when they take on Leake Academy.
Those games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Full coverage of last week’s Raider basketball action will appear in Tuesday’s edition of the Daily Times Leader.
