The Oak Hill Academy girls junior high track team saw some brilliant performances from individual athletes, but fell just short of capturing the district crown at Marshall Academy on Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders finished second overall, despite a first place finish from Rivers Bryan in high jump and a first place finish for McKenzie McGee in shot put.

Head coach Mindy Bowman expressed pride in the performance of the junior high squad and its work ethic, despite several new faces on the team.

“A lot of young girls, new girls, which is sometimes hard to put together a truly successful program when you have a lot of young kids,” Bowman said. “But they really stepped up and I think we have a great future to continue our track program.”

Bowman said 10 of the 12 girls on the junior high squad would move up for the varsity district meet next week.

If any of the athletes finish in the top four individually, they will qualify to move on to North State at Lee Academy in Clarksdale.
