On Friday night, the Oak Hill Academy Lady Raiders finished off Manchester Academy for the second time this season to complete a perfect 6-0 record in district play this season. Starting on Saturday, the girls began a string of non-district games they are hoping will get them ready for the upcoming district tournament at Winston Academy.
The first of these non-league games resulted in a 55-45 loss to the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers. Starkville has accounted for two of Oak Hill’s seven losses this season.
The Lady Volunteers jumped out to an early lead, scoring 14 in the first, while their defense held Oak Hill to just nine points.
In the second, it was a dozen more scored for Starkville, as Oak Hill put up 11 to make it a 26-20 Starkville lead at the half.
The Lady Raiders tried to climb back into the game in the third quarter, but they could never overcome their early deficit. They scored 14 points, while Starkville put up another 15 to make it 41-26 at the end of the third quarter.
With eight minutes to go, Oak Hill needed a big half from both sides of the ball, but Starkville would remain consistent, putting up 14 and holding Oak Hill to 11 for the 10-point win.
The Lady Raiders will play host to Heritage Academy tonight, with games starting at 4 p.m. The girls game will start at around 6 p.m.
