Oak Hill’s decorated senior class, and one of the most solid to ever have played throughout Stan Hughey’s tenure, left no doubts that they will be a team to beat in the postseason after a 54-24 victory over the Carroll Academy Lady Rebels Friday night. The emotional seniors shared the scoring load with other teammates and pushed the ball effectively all night, holding Carroll to no more than 10 points in any quarter. After a somewhat slow 12-4 first quarter, the Lady Raiders caught fire and scored 20 more points before halftime. The second half was much of the same for Oak Hill. Carroll never made a run to threaten the Lady Raiders, and the home fans were pleased to watch some fun basketball.
Shay Atkins was the leading scorer for Oak Hill with 15 points to go along with a team-high 11 rebounds. Rachel Herndon and Sarah Dill added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Anna Ready scored seven more. Maegen Ellis and Lauren Billington finished with five and two points, respectively, while Sydney Holton added one.
The Lady Raiders will be back in action next Friday for the second round of the district championship, facing the winner between Canton Academy and Winston Academy.
