The Oak Hill Lady Raiders (2-2) came into Tuesday night’s game against Lamar, fresh off a loss to North Delta at the Indianola Tournament. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions were able to extend Oak Hill’s losing streak, dropping them 42-40.
“We should have won the ball game,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey. “We just didn’t do what we needed to do to win it.”
The Lady Raiders kept the game close, but in the end, they could not get over the hump and grab the lead before the final buzzer.
Tori Ellis led the team with 24 points and 13 rebounds. She also had three assists.
Paige Dawkins reached double digits in points, scoring 11 on the night.
Anna Ready had four points for Oak Hill, getting five assists.
Shay Atkins came off the bench for four rebounds, three steals and a point.
“Shay got a chance to play, and she played well for us,” said Hughey.
The Lady Raiders finished the night 11-for-18 from the free throw line, and the offense had 22 turnovers.
In junior high action, the girls won 32-19. They had a 28 nothing lead going into the fourth quarter, before the second squad came in for the last eight minutes.
Johanna Carnathan scored nine points, and Kelsie Langford had six points.
Sarah Deal had eight points, and Bett Langley had four points on the night.
Alice Amelia Wooten and Lexie Harden had five steals each.
Tonight, the Lady Raiders will play host to Kirk Academy.
“Kirk is going to be the best team we’ve played so far this year,” Hughey said. “They are very good defensively. They are very disciplined, and they are a very tough team. We will have to play the best game we’ve played all year.”
Tip off for the early games is set for 4 p.m.
