Lady Eagles fall to Kemper Academy 46-44

January 6, 2013

The Lady Eagles traveled to De Kalb, taking on the Lady Rams of Kemper Academy. In their third district game, the girls of Hebron Christian were hoping to pick up their first district win after two losses to Winona Christian and Calhoun Academy.
The Lady Eagles carried a slim one point lead through the third quarter 34-33. Inconsistency from the free throw line allowed for the Lady Rams to find a lead in the fourth quarter, forcing Hebron to fight in the final seconds to try and tie the game. The Lady Eagles though were unsuccessful in their last stitch attempts and fell to Kemper Academy 46-44.
In the first quarter, both teams needed to find their rhythm from the floor shooting the ball. Early in the quarter Kemper was picking up more offensive rebounds and getting more looks on offense. Even with more attempts at scoring for the Lady Rams, Hebron had the 4-2 lead midway through the first period. The last half of the quarter became a back and forth affair with both teams trading baskets to close out. Hebron stayed in command at the end of first 11-10 over Kemper.
The Lady Rams took their first lead in second quarter going ahead 12-11, but Hebron was able to retake the lead by the 6:02 mark 13-12. In such a tight game, the Lady Eagles and Kemper were tied at 14-14 through the middle of the period. Hebron allowed too many turnovers towards end of the second but still was able to remain in the lead 24-23 by halftime.
The second half was very competitive and the Lady Eagles and Lady Rams were going toe-to-toe. Hebron Christian remained in the lead through the middle of third quarter 30-29. The Lady Eagles soon got into foul trouble with two girls picking up their fourth personal foul as the game became very physical and up-tempo. As two girls had to hold back due to foul trouble, Kemper was able to draw even with Hebron. Entering the final quarter, the Lady Eagles were tied 34-34.
In the fourth quarter, the game was very tense and both teams were hoping to come away with the win. Both teams continued to trade the lead in the fourth and both teams had many chances to pull away. Kemper took a 46-42 lead with a 1:25 minutes left in the game, but the Lady Eagles had a little more fight in them. Two free-throws brought the game within two points for the Lady Eagles. With 25 seconds remaining, the Lady Eagles possessed the ball well and held it the full 25 seconds. Hebron had the last shot but was unable to score, handing the win to Kemper 46-44.
Rebekah Falkner and Holly Hudson led the Lady Eagles with 12 points on Friday night. Also scoring for Hebron was Brooke Griffin (8 points), Victoria Ferguson (8 points), and Subrina Oswalt (4 points).
The Lady Eagles were competitive in the third district game and fought hard enough for the win. Hebron will hope to find a district win when they return the floor Tuesday at Central Academy of Macon.
