In Friday night hoops action, the Lady Eagles were in a big game against Immanuel that came down to the final seconds. Hebron overcame a fourteen point deficit in the fourth quarter and clinched the game when Brooke Ferguson hit the go ahead basket with only four seconds left in the game. Point leaders of the Immanuel game for Hebron Christian were Victoria Ferguson with 16 points and Rebekah Falkner with 14 points.
After Friday’s win against Immanuel, Coach William Cotton and his Lady Eagles made the first road trip of the season to Starkville Christian.
Hebron Christian looked an improved team from last week; showing great ability to place points on the board, especially inside with help from Victoria Ferguson. Though getting into deep foul trouble, the Lady Eagles pulled out a close one 37-35 over the Cougars.
Hebron took an early lead in the first quarter that soon diminished. Starkville Christian stormed back in the first to go ahead 8-7; a late Falkner three pointer placed the Lady Eagles in the lead 10-8 over the Cougars, ending the quarter. A scrappy second quarter started the foul trouble for Hebron, as many players began to get their second or third foul of the game. The Lady Eagles continued to be successful offensively, but the foul trouble helped Starkville Christian stay in the game. The Lady Eagles ended the first half ahead 21-17.
Hebron Christian came out hot in the third quarter extending their lead to ten points with the help of three consecutive baskets from Holly Hudson early in the quarter. Ferguson remained dominant in the paint, but still foul trouble overshadowed her time on the court. Starkville Christian remained alive through the third quarter with the Lady Eagles still leading 31-25. In hopes to get out of the game unscathed, Coach Cotton urged his Lady Eagles to slow the game down. Working a slower offense still did not melt enough clock as Ferguson fouled out early in the fourth quarter along with Holly Hudson. The loss of Ferguson down low hurt Hebron, and allowed the Cougars to get back into the game. The Cougars came back roaring, but the Lady Eagles were able to escape after Starkville Christian missed the game tying shot at the end of the game, 37-35.
Scoring leaders for Hebron Christian were Falkner, Holly Hudson, and Ferguson, each had nine points in the game. Subrina Oswalt and Brooke Griffin both scored four points and Millie Hudson scored two points.
The Lady Eagles’ win over Starkville Christian starts a two game winning streak which Hebron hopes to extend Tuesday against Grace Christian in Louisville. Hebron Christian looks to continue a winning mentality that can start in the beginning of the season.
