Coming off a nice home victory against East Oktibbeha at home last Thursday night, the West Point Green Wave hoops team was back on the home court on Monday night to face Kemper.
Solid second and third quarter performances catapulted Kemper County over the Wave 65-55.
It all started with a back-and-forth shooting battle between the two teams in the first frame. Both teams escaped the first quarter with a 14-14 tie.
In the second, Kemper was able to pull away, thanks to Dandy Dozen Devante Pollard’s offensive efforts. Pollard would finish the game with 29 points.
By the end of the second half, West Point’s three post players all had three fouls against them, and they were on the bench as they watched Kemper explode for a 35-26 half time lead.
In the third, West Point was unable to get out of the single digits in scoring, netting eight points to Kemper’s 18.
In the fourth, West Point put up 21 points, but Kemper’s 12 points were enough to hold off any rally.
Laquintis Robertson led the Wave again with 19 points. Arrington Lenoir had 13 on the night for West Point.
