James Edward Springer

James Edward Springer, son of Ora and Martin Elbert Springer of Okolona, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014.
He leaves his wife of 65 years Melba B. Springer and son, James Edward Springer, Jr. “Doodle” of Starkville; two sister-in-laws; Emma K. Manning of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Rubye Wray of West Point; brothers – in - law: Joe Wray and Floyde Barnes both of West Point; many loveable nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jim loved all the kids because they played games with him. He attended Okolona School then went into the Navy after graduating. He was stationed in the South Pacific for his tour. He entered Mississippi Sate in 1947 in the school of Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1951. James went to work with Alabama Power Co., Birmingham, Ala. One year later he was working in Mobile, Ala. There he stayed 19 years, then moved on to another phase of his work. He took a position with Gulf Electric Co., as their Chief Electric Engineer. He was there until his retirement. Then he started his own consulting firm. He had great pride in his work, two jobs that took center stage were the Mobile Public Library in Mobile, Ala.; and the restoring of the old Alabama Capital in Montgomery, Ala. he worked with both City and County projects. Jim was a great supporter of Mississippi State since he graduated. He was founder of the Mississippi State Alumni first Chapter in Mobile, Ala.. His love for God, family and all the people he came in contact with over the years, but his work was his life. He will be in heaven telling the Lord, “We need to work on the lightning here.”
A family service will be held at a later date.
