Jacob Melvin Garrett passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at NMMC-West Point at the age of 92.
He was born June 23, 1921, in Texas to the late Hattie McCleskey and Leslie Garrett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in WWII. He moved to Arizona in 1938, and worked for Phelps Dodge Copper Co. for 35 years. He moved to Mississippi in 1981, and was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Doran Henry officiating. Burial will follow in McPherson Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rush Robinson, Alex Robinson, Mark Stafford, Gabe Stafford, Bobby Brand, Claude Cartee. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Siloam Baptist Church. Visitation is Friday from 1 p.m. to service time at the church.
He is survived by his wife Margie Garrett of West Point; brother, Sidney Garrett of Pearce, AZ; sisters, Opal Speck and Helen Sines, both of Clyde, TX.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alyce Garrett.
