Jack Thompson, age 80, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Mr. James Jackson "Jack" Thompson was born March 15, 1933, in Chickasaw County, the son of the late Robert Lee and Ellie Coila Wilson Thompson. He was a member of Cairo Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he
served as an Elder for many years. He retired from Bryan Foods after 40 years, where he worked in management. He married Evelyn Watkins Thompson on May 8, 1952, in the Cairo Community of Clay County and they were married for 61 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Baird; and by a brother, Robert Thompson.
Funeral services are today, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. James Towery officiating and assisted by Mr. Joel Coleman. Burial will follow in Cairo Cemetery near Cedar Bluff. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn W. Thompson of Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Sandra Thompson White (Andy) of Cedar Bluff; one son, Danny Thompson (Ann) of Petal; four grandchildren: Clay White (Kristen), Matt White (Elise), Scott Horton (Jennifer), and Dana Bailey and nine great - grandchildren: Noah Hyer, Kendall White, Caleb White, Matthew Horton, Austin Horton, Amy Horton, Kara Bailey, Rebecca Bailey, and Jacob Bailey; two sisters: Ruby Brandon (Joe) of Sparta and Elizabeth Gann of Houston; and one brother, Fred Thompson (Sarah) of Houston.
Pallbearers are Bobby Baird, Leslie Goode, Ken Brandon, Don Carr, Terry Chrismond, Mark Henderson, Jerry Harkness, and Harold Webster.
Honorary pallbearers are Carl Bryan, Bennie Clark, Carroll Christopher, Fox Haas, Dr. Ren Massey, C.M. Miller, Nelson Hughes, Bobby Hughes, Burt Nix, Paul Amos McGarity, Doug Baird, All his former co - workers at Bryan Foods, nurses and staff of North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, nurses and staff of North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, and the nurses and staff of Cancer Care in Starkville.
