Irene Vernon O'Brian Griffin, age 80, passed away, Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital of East, Memphis.
Irene Vernon O'Brian Griffin was born Jan. 29, 1930, in Winston County, Miss., to thelate Edna Lovorn Vernon and Lewis Vernon. She was a retired seamstress and homemaker. Irene Vernon O'Brian Griffin was a member of Mantee Baptist Church. She moved to Clay County, in 1945 with her family. She was an active member of Mantee Baptist Church. In 1948 she married Sam O'Brian and he passed away in 1969. In 1970 she married Howard Griffin and he passed away in 1991. Irene Vernon O'Brian Griffin married Sam O'Brian in 1948, he preceded her in death in 1969, she married Howard Griffin in 1970, and he passed away in 1991.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin "Bo" Farrior officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, West Point.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters: Diane O'Brian Brand (Ray) of Olive Branch, Miss., Susan O'Brian Rodgers (Charles) of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren: Amy Rodgers Mackintosh (Todd) and Joel Rodgers (Amy); five great grandchildren; one sister, Frances Johnson of Columbus, Miss.; two brothers: L.E. Vernon (Nora) of West Point, Miss., James Vernon (Peggy) of Booneville, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her son, Sammy Lovorn O’Brian in 1969; five sisters: Ethel Lee, Earlene Weaver, Katherine Tackett, Lucille Swindol, and Lucy Warren, and an infant brother,
Lewis Vernon, Jr, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Vernon, Brad Vernon, Mike Vernon, Matt McCory, Tim Roberson and Doug Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers are her friends in the Mantee Community.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
Visitation is Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at Calvert Funeral Home.
