The Oak Hill Academy Raiders went into Friday’s contest against Indianola with a 1-1 record against the Colonels in 2010-2011. Looking to get their second win against the Delta team, Oak Hill could not get over the hump and take the lead, as they fell 59-55 in the Friday opener at the Kirk Academy Tournament.
The Colonels jumped on top for 16 points in the opening quarter of the game, holding Oak Hill to 14 points. Down by only two, the Raiders hung in there throughout the first half.
In the second period, the Raiders were out-scored, but only by two, leaving them down by three at the half.
Trailing 31-27 going into the third, the Raiders needed a big quarter. Unfortunately for Oak Hill, the third was more or the same, as Indianola barely stayed ahead with a 15-14 frame.
Trailing 46-41, with eight minutes to go in regulation, Oak Hill needed some extra offense in the fourth. They would get 14 for the third time on the night, holding the Colonels to just 13 points, but Indianola still held on to its four-point lead as the final buzzer sounded.
Reid Posey ended with the most points for Oak Hill at 14 points. John Wesley Williamson had 13 points on the night.
Zach Bryan had 10 points, and Steven Jones and Conner Baird scored six points each.
Jeb Stevens scored three points, and John Robert Wilburne had two points. Jacob Dickens scored one point in the effort as well.
Oak Hill would go on to play Saturday at the tourney, and all of the results will be in Tuesday’s paper. Oak Hill returns to the court on Tuesday for a district match, at home, against Winston.
