The last time West Point was supposed to go to Oxford for a district doubleheader, a January 11 winter storm hit Mississippi, postponing the games.
The makeup date? It was supposed to have been last night, but another “rare” winter storm threatened most of the state and forced cancellations and postponements, including the games in question.
This afternoon, the two teams will try and end the division play once and for all, when West Point travels to take on the Chargers, starting at 3 p.m.
The Green Wave did get a look at the Charger program, one that’s battling for a top spot in the district in both girls and boys hoops. On January 21, Oxford came to town and split with the Green Wave teams.
The boys, at the time, improved their record to 2-0 in a nine-point win over the Chargers. The girls were not as fortunate, suffering their lone loss in the district to date.
The boys did not suffer their first district loss until the Tuesday after they played Oxford, when they went to New Hope and lost in overtime.
On Tuesday night, West Point got revenge against the Trojans with a home win, putting them at 4-1 in district play going into today’s game.
The girls share the same record, defeating New Hope and Saltillo twice.
The girls are coming off a 74-43 victory over the Lady Trojans.
Both Green Wave teams are sitting atop their respective districts, hoping wins today will seal up the top seed as they prepare to host the district tournament in four days.
The two teams will play Noxubee tomorrow, startinga t 5 p.m.
