Hollis M. Pendley
Hollis M. Pendley, age 92, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at his home in West Point, Miss.
Hollis M. Pendley was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Lynn, Ala., to the late Clearcie King and Daniel Arthur Pendley, Sr. He was a General Agent for the C & G Railway for 32 years and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Pendley was a Veteran of the U. S. Army as the rank of a Sargeant during WW II. Hollis M. Pendley married Geonette Harrison Pendley Nov. 2, 1940, at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Parsonage.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 3 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Columbus, Miss. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 70 1/2 blessed years, Geonette Harrison Pendley; one daughter, Gen Pendley Thomas
(Ben) all of West Point; two granddaughters: Cynthia Thomas Dannan (Matt) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Kate Thomas Nevins (Reid) of Hamilton, Miss.; one sister, Martha Stokes (Morris) of Oxford, Ala.; one brother, Dan Pendley, Jr. (Eleanor) of Caledonia, Miss. Three brothers: Eugene Pendley, Orval Pendly and Nathaniel Pendley, also preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Ben Rosencrans, Billy Buck Staggers, Ray Millard, Belk Weems, Sonny Jameson, and Hugh Cooper.
Honorary Pallbearers were The Men's Bible Class, The Wesley-Wasson Sunday School Class, Dr. Edmund A. Miller, Jr. and Staff, and Jeana Whitacre.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 293, West Point, MS 39773.
Visitation was Saturday, at 2 p.m. until service time at the Church.
